How to fill the membership application

  2. In Becoming a Member, choose Skilla as your member organisation.
  3. Important for students regarding the Erko Unemployment Fund: Our Student Pro membership includes the fund and costs €90/year, whereas our Student Basic membership (€10/year) does not include the fund. Read more on membership fees below.

Akava Special Branches

Akava Special Branches provides our members with legal advice and member services (such as membership fees). They also offer training, career services and other member benefits.

Akava Special Branches donates €1 to charity for each new members. The sum is split between HelsinkiMissio and The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.

Erko Unemployment Fund

As a Skilla and Akava Special Branches member, your unemployment benefit is managed by Unemployment Fund for Higher Educated Employees Erko, and you may be entitled to earnings-related unemployment allowance, job alternation compensation or other fund benefits. The fund’s membership fee is included in the union’s membership fee. Students may choose upon joining whether to join the fund (Student Pro, €06 / year) or not (Student Basic, €10 / year).

Membership fees

  • Default membership fee

    Default membership fee: €34 per month.

    • This includes the memberships of Skilla, Akava Special Branches, and the Erko unemployment fund.
    • You pay the default fee if you are in paid employment OR receive an allowance from Erko/another unemployment fund.

  • Part-time employees

    Part-time employees: €24 per month

    • For those working no more than 60 % of full time working hours.

  • Students

    Students with Erko fund membership: €90 per year (€7.50 per month)

    • Students who have registered for a degree and are members of the Erko unemployment fund.

    Students with NO Erko fund membership: €10 per year

    • Students who have registered for a degree and are not members of the Erko unemployment fund.

  • Freelancers, individual professionals & entrepreneurs

    Freelancers, individual professionals, and entrepreneurs: €18 per month.

     

  • Minimum fee, pensioners & exemptions

    Minimum fee: €10 per month

    • Unemployed / laid off AND not on Erko/other unemployment fund allowance
    • Family leave (NB you pay the default fee while your employer pays you a salary.)
    • You receive grants
    • You are on unpaid sick leave
    • You receive rehabilitation support
    • You receive a benefit for caring for close relatives
    • You receive adult education allowance
    • You are working abroad (and not a posted worker).

    Pensioners: €10 per month

    A member in military or civilian service is exempt from membership fees.
    An honorary member of the union is exempt from membership fees.

  • Support members

    Support members: €500 per year

    • A legal entity or person who wishes to support the purpose and activities of the union may be accepted as a support member.

Paying the membership fee

You pay the same sum each month. You can pay the membership fee using the Akava Special Branches online platform or via your own bank with the payment details you have received.
If your employer has been collecting the membership fee from your salary, you do not need to do anything yourself. However, it is best to verify that the membership fee has been paid correctly from the first pay slip of the year.
If you receive an allowance from an unemployment fund, you pay the membership fee yourself.
